How do I conduct researchin the arts? Do I use hypotheses and investigative questions, wear a lab coat and use a microscope? Does conducting this research increase the chances for success of a funding application? How do others in the independent performing arts community go about this – and who are these others, in fact? This professional exchange format that takes place from June 4 to 6 as part of Figure It Out is intended for theater makers who want to meet others within the community, network and find inspiration. Playful exchange formats, an academic presentation on artistic research as well as an unconference will all provide opportunities to do so. This will allow the participants to follow the ideas and questions that actually interest them and bring them further along the way to their goals: no matter whether it involves forming a self-help group of anonymous procrastinators, having a professional exchange about funding opportunities or having a conversation about inclusivity… To close things out at the end of this, a zine workshop in which freehand collages made from texts, images and objects will be made, will provide an opportunity to hold on to what has been learned as well as to reflect.
