How Accessible is the Website?

This website is partially accessible. It only partially meets the requirements of BITV 2.0.

Which Areas Are Not Accessible?

The following areas are not accessible for the reasons stated below:

Incompatibility with BITV 2.0

Timetable & Measures:

The following barriers will be removed in the future. All planned expansions of our website will prioritize accessibility during the design phase. By training our staff and establishing new processes, we will ensure future compliance with all accessibility standards.

Non-Accessible Areas:

1. Lack of Alternative Text for Many Images

  • Section: Text Alternatives (9.1.1.1b Alternative Texts for Graphics and Objects)
  • Description: Many of the previously used images are not equipped or are insufficiently equipped with alternative texts.

2. Missing Alternative Texts for Interactive Elements

  • Section: Text Alternatives (9.1.1.1a Alternative Texts for Interactive Elements)
  • Description: Various interactive elements (e.g., shopping cart icon, input fields in the order form) are not labeled with alternative texts.
    • Note: The webshop is an external platform over which Kulturprojekte Berlin has limited influence. Significant improvements are expected with the implementation of the Accessibility Strengthening Act in June 2025. As the webshop is a third-party offering, it does not fall under the scope of the Berlin Accessible ICT Act. However, its barriers are listed here for informational purposes.
  • Accessible Alternatives: For specific inquiries regarding projects, events, or individuals, you can contact us by phone at 030 206416897 or via email at roewer@schaubude.berlin.

3. Incorrect or Inconsistent Use of Headings, Lists, and Quotes

  • Section: Adaptable (9.1.3.1a HTML Structural Elements for Headings, 9.1.3.1b HTML Structural Elements for Lists, 9.1.3.1c HTML Structural Elements for Quotes)
  • Description: On various subpages, the hierarchical structure of headings is not consistently maintained. Additionally, some quotes are not correctly marked in the source code.
    • Accessible Alternatives: No accessible alternatives are currently available. However, we are continually striving to improve these issues editorially.

4. Partially Non-Accessible Forms

  • Sections:
    • Adaptable (9.1.3.5 Input Fields Convey Purpose)
    • Input Assistance (9.3.3.2 Labels for Form Elements, 9.3.3.4 Error Prevention Supported)
  • Description:
    • The newsletter registration form does not support the autofill function for fields with personal data.
    • The press mailing list registration form cannot be operated using only a keyboard.
    • Note: All forms use an asterisk (*) to indicate required fields. However, this meaning is not further explained.

5. Website Partially Not Usable Without a Mouse

  • Section: Keyboard Accessible (9.2.1.1 Operable Without a Mouse, 9.2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap)
  • Description:
    • Status messages are not keyboard-accessible. This applies to a briefly displayed window in the shop that informs users when an item is added to the cart.
    • The shop icon that links to the personal cart is not keyboard-accessible.
    • In the newsletter registration form, the box for consenting to data protection policies is not captured by the tab key.
    • Accessible Alternatives: Temporarily, please contact us at roewer@schaubude.berlin to submit your data and consent for the press mailing list registration via email. Alternatively, you can call us at 030 206416897.

6. Limited Use of the Website Without Colors

  • Section: Distinguishable (9.1.4.1 Usable Without Colors)
  • Description: Occasionally, background and text colors do not meet the required contrast ratios.
    • Accessible Alternatives: Users are encouraged to adjust their browser settings for color display. If weak contrasts are encountered, please contact us at roewer@schaubude.berlin.

7. Link Targets Difficult to Understand Without Visual Information

  • Section: 9.2.4.4 Descriptive Link Texts
  • Description: Links in the text (e.g., “read more,” “here”) currently rely on visual context for understanding. The same applies to contact details like email addresses and phone numbers on the team page.
    • Accessible Alternatives: If you have trouble accessing team contact information, please call 030 206416897 or email roewer@schaubude.berlin.
