What a stupid name! As if Ishmael hadn’t been punished enough by his first name, now he has also been chosen as the favorite bullying victim of the awful Barry Bagsley. Ishmael’s strategy against this is to make himself invisible. When the new kid, James Scobie, arrives in the classroom, however, things change. Scobie is not afraid of anything or anybody and starts a debate club. Before Ishmael knows it, he has become a member and sees embarrassments and humiliations of an entirely new dimension coming at him. Dont Call Me Ishmael! is a testament to the power of language and communicates that revenge is the wrong strategy and that instead opposing positions mean that you have stand up for your own point of view.
