What is not present, has every reason to conceal itself. The performance »Whirlpool« plays with the presence of the absent: the effect refers to the cause, the end to the start, the lyrics to the melody, and the word to the object... And vice versa. But what is the meaning of what at which time? This composition of everyday objects and appliances, comprising performative, cinematic and musical references, surprises your senses and your sensemaking.

Shahab Anousha works as a freelance performance artist in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Tehran in collaboration with various companies, including Freaks & Fremde and Rimini Protokoll. Dealing with the aesthetics of disappearance, his graduation performance as part of his Master’s in Performance Studies from Hamburg is now showcased in Berlin for the first time.
