The fear of nuclear war shaped life on both sides of the wall in the early 1980s. In East Berlin, the painter Bärbel Bohley gathered signatures against the new military service law, which would oblige women to serve with weapons. In the years that followed, “Women for Peace” became an important player in the resistance. Numerous actions and connections to members of the opposition and activists beyond the wall substantiated her political influence. The team around Kahmann & Scharpff follows in her footsteps and continue to this day. What encourages women in the fight against militarization and their commitment to peace?
