Hannah Arendt writes a fairy tale. Hannah Arendt? A fairy tale? The famous, cigarette-smoking thinker, the astute political theorist?

We were surprised. And moved.

Together with the fairy tale’s main character—a girl tending geese—the audience embarks on a journey of discovery through Hannah Arendt’s world. At her desk, anecdotes from her life are revealed. Poems, letters, and quotes flutter through the room. And, of course, Hannah Arendt herself has her say.

This production attempts to explore Arendt’s extensive body of work. The focus is on the formative experiences of her emigration, flight, and homelessness. Like the girl in the fairy tale, Hannah Arendt was always forced to look ahead, to keep moving forward, and to keep searching. What does it mean to lose one’s familiar homeland, and how did Arendt cope with it? And what does it mean to still be a “someone” in the world?

The production showcases the theorist’s poetic side and explores questions that continue to resonate today. Like Hannah Arendt herself, this production also seeks, to some extent, to “understand.”
