Mycelium:
The entirety of the thread-shaped cells of a mushroom that can grow together
into a network and form the vegetative system.
Proceeding from images
of bodies from society, microbiology, folktales and dreams, Annina Mosimann and
Fernando Munizaga set off on the search for the motherly and birthing body. The
borders between organisms are blurring – information between
yeast bacteria and skin cells, between eardrums and optic nerves is exchanged.
We grow, we spread out, we divide ourselves into thousands of pieces. Where
does my body begin? And am I actually here voluntarily?
Mycelium is
Annina Mosimann’s thesis project in the department of visual theater and
puppetry at the State University of Music and the Performing Arts Stuttgart in
which instruments, microphones, objects, material as well as the body and voice
of the performer are connected with each other as part of a complex sound
installation and mutually influence each other.
This results in an interaction where it is no longer who gives the
impulses and who receives them.
