Two cities that overlap. Two worlds in which different rules apply. An archaeologist on the verge of deciphering the mystery in between. “INBETWEEN – THE OTHER CITY” invites the audience to be immersed in an interlinked, interactive cosmos. Here, everyone becomes a researcher, setting forth together on the hunt for both physical and virtual clues and their possible meaning. With the help of a site-specific augmented reality and a virtual 3D environment, the participating players reconstruct events that appear between the two worlds.

Caspar Bankert, Sarah Buser and Tomás Montes Massa will showcase their interactive work as part of the 2022 edition of Theater der Dinge, inviting their audience to take part in a fictional expedition into theatre, urban spaces and a virtual environment.

Notes on accessibility: Information about the accessibility of the venue in structural terms can be found here. “INBETWEEN” is a performance format that allows all spectators to take part.  It is not possible to take part without interacting.  The audience (a maximum of 15 people) is divided into two groups.  Five of the people receive a tablet and headphones that allow them to gain access to a virtual world, which they have to move through themselves.  They move along in the public space outside of where the showcase takes place, walking along at their own pace. The players in the other group sit in pairs at a computer in the Schaubude Berlin, using it to move around in the virtual world.  There are seats and headphones available for everyone, with access provided to aids and wheelchairs.
Trigger warning: suicide. The topic occurs in the piece, but is not the main theme.
