Stop motion installation
US publicist, philosopher and university lecturer Timothy Morton has coined the term ‘ecognosis’: “Ecognosis, an enigma. Ecognosis is knowing, but even more so, it’s allowing knowledge. It is something akin to coexistence. It is getting used to something foreign, but also getting used to a foreignness that becomes no less foreign as we become used to it. Ecognosis is like a knowledge that knows itself”.
Based on Alan Weisman’s book “The World Without Us”, which also provides the motto for this year’s festival edition, BetweenTwoHands has developed a theatre installation. Weisman describes how nature assumes what remains of human civilisation after the disappearance of human life. Gosia Kaczmarek and Erin Tijn A Ton translate this idea into stop-motion animations involving microbes, insects and plants that are projected onto a world as we know it.
Up to three people can visit the installation together with one ticket.
Notes on accessibility: Information about the structural accessibility of the venue can be found here. Visitors will move around the installation: it is mandatory to wear a medical mask throughout the entire event. No seating options are provided.
