Exhibitions
In addition to the stage programme, Schaubude Berlin curates exhibitions in the foyer and in the display windows of the theatre. The artistic and topical themes change two to four times a year and spice up the surrounding urban space in their own way. An open invitation to experience art – for our audience, for all passers-by, and for the neighbourhood.
A cross-section of an apartment building. Entire worlds are stacked next to and on top of each other in this composition of automated theater miniatures. The audience is invited to interact with »Renting Rectangles« and discover how the different scenes are connected. The installation allows visitors to experience stories at their own pace, alone or together, and invites them to enter into conversation with each other.
About the Group:
Kollektiv Schroffke! is a puppetry collective based in Leipzig, consisting of Liesbeth Nenoff, Jo Posenenske and Franz Schrörs. Schroffke! They work in-between installation and theatre, with objects, sound and miniatures.

Paper: Cuts. Folds. Spaces. Houses. A Staircase…
Halina Kratochwil
grew up in East Berlin, completed her training as a men’s tailor at the Staatsoper Berlin, and after internships in the workshops of the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, she went on to study stage and film design in Vienna and Amsterdam. Following an assistantship at TAT in Frankfurt/Main, she returned to Berlin, where she has been living since 2001 as a freelance stage and costume designer with her husband and three children. She works at a wide range of municipal and state theaters (including Theater Augsburg, DT Berlin, Volkstheater Rostock, Landestheater Schwaben Memmingen) as well as theaters in the independent scene (such as Neuköllner Oper Berlin, TuD Berlin, Schaubude Berlin, Figurentheater Grashüpfer Berlin).
In 2019, she began working as a director. Since 2020, Halina Kratochwil has been intensely exploring various ways to transform two-dimensional paper into three-dimensional objects. DREAM ON is her most extensive work in this field to date.
Im Fenster der Schaubude Berlin ist der Geist eines Tieres in einem Rahmen zum Trocknen aufgespannt. Diese Skulptur, die an die uralte Methode des Häutens eines Tieres erinnert, will eine Beziehung zwischen dem Tier, das wir als Nahrung, Kleidung oder Transportmittel benutzen, und uns selbst herstellen. Sie will uns dazu bringen, über den Platz nachzudenken, den wir, die Menschen, auf der Erde einnehmen, in Bezug auf den Rest der Lebewesen. Krallen oder Finger in der Mitte, wie die Zähne im Maul der Geister, bereit, uns in ihren Abgrund zu ziehen und zu verschlingen…
Und die Hände? Sie lauern. Sie lauern auf uns.
Die kanadische Künstlerin Neïtah Janzing interessiert sich für Texturen, Materialien und Kontakt zu unbekannten Personen. Dabei zieht sie ihre Inspiration für ihre künstlerische Recherche aus dem Moment der Begegnung und übersetzt diesen in vielfältige Formate. Derzeit fokussiert sich ihre Arbeit auf ihre eigene Biografie in Bezug zu dem Land und der Natur, wo sie aufgewachsen ist. »Hands and Skin and Us« ist teilweise in ihrem Elternhaus entstanden, zwischen Wald und Bach, mit der Lecture von Robin Wall Kimmerer und der Musik von Kelly Fraser und Kiki Rockwell.
