Lynn Margulis was one of the first biologists to ever explore the complex coexistence and interconnected nature of microorganisms with each other and with plants, animals and fungi. She described the earth as a vast web of interdependencies. In the spirit of the Thinker, the Catalan artists Xesca Salvà and Marc Villanueva Mir provide a voice for these tiniest beings, twisting concepts of life, genetics, gender and eroticism. Based on conversations with biologists, they have developed an immersive performance that sits between science and fiction: what mental spaces are opened up to us when we imagine our earth as an amalgamation of billions of tiny worlds? An attempt to leave our anthropocentric arrogance behind us and to fully embrace the eternal diversity of life.
Notes on accessibility:
Information on the structural accessibility of the venue is available here. The audience moves independently through the space, there are no fixed seats; the floor is partly uneven. German spoken and written language is used and there is intensive use of projections, some of which show rapidly changing images. There is the use of stage fog, unexpected loud noises and loud music. The audience is invited to interact.
