WETWARE – Looking at the technology of the soul
»WETWARE« is mechanical dance theatre or musical puppet theatre. »WETWARE« encompasses a poetic approach to the emotional life of the techno-self – it plays with opposites and dependencies between love and death, the precision of machines and the feeling of humans. Inspired by Paul B. Preciado’s auto-experimental book »Testo Junkie«, the puppet theatre performance put on by O-Team explores the malleability of body and self within the context of technology, drugs, sex and biopolitics. In the same way as a long-form poem, it describes the reinvention of nature, electro-cellular circuits, intimate desires, chemical reactions and the technology of the soul.
In its 2021/22 season review, ‘Die Deutsche Bühne’ praises the work carried out by the Stuttgart O-Team which reflects their love of discourse and images, and “which looks at innovations that reflect the link between technology and progress on the one hand, and their displacement from the common consciousness on the other”. Planned to open the festival in 2020 and subsequently becoming a victim of lockdown, »WETWARE« is now finally coming to Berlin to close the 2022 edition of Theater der Dinge.
Notes on accessibility: Information about the accessibility of the venue in structural terms can be found here. As part of the performance, strobe lighting is used in a longer sequence. Loud music with a heavy beat is also used. The text is projected in written German.
