In “Coffee with sugar?” the two materials, coffee and sugar, appropriate the stage in their various aggregate states. Based on these, we negotiate German immigration history in Central America and its colonial continuity. From coffee beans and candyfloss, from biographical material and historical sources, from video fragments and live music, a visually stunning, solid and sensual production ensues.

In 2021, the production won the Fritz Wortelmann Prize for Figure Theatre in the category “Young Professionals”. Quote from the jury’s statement:

Note on accessibility:
During the production, coffee beans are used and coffee is boiled, resulting in a strong odour. Large-format, occasionally flickering video projections, loud music and strobe lights are all used. It includes excerpts from the film “Die Zivilisationsbringer” (The Civilisation Bringers), within which racist terms and discriminatory language is used.
