Unlike its author, Anne Frank’s red and white chequered diary miraculously survived the Holocaust and has become one of the most important and best-known objects of memory. The texts offer intensive insights into puberty under extreme conditions: created in hiding in the back building, they simultaneously reflect on youthful questions about family, infatuation, loneliness, and the search for one’s own identity, as well as on anti-Semitism, persecution, and murder under National Socialism.
