“Mama Europa” offers a view of dual citizenship life as an idiosyncratic in-between existence. It focuses on the interwoven lives of the protagonist and her mother, on a love for the great peace project that is Europe and on the related hopes and fears.
In her solo production, Sabine Mittelhammer brings the characters in an old family photo to life. They all share the experience of immigration or emigration, either forced or voluntary. Their paths are like lines on a map connecting things that are distant from each other. A large family reminiscent of Europe, a fragile community in unstoppable change.
Note on barrier-free access: You can find information on the structural accessibility of the venue here.
In the production, the topics flight, escape routes and war violence (World War II, Yugoslavian wars) as well as the EU's border protection policy are negotiated. In addition, war is depicted scenically and sounds of fighter planes are used.
