Object Theatre
Shaday Larios and Jomi Oligor, both experts in documentary object theatre, are back again, this time inviting their audience on an intimate journey into tourist fata morganas. Based on research undertaken in Cuba and Acapulco, Mexico, they use their tiny stage to present the dreamy illusions that transform holiday resorts into paradise: picture postcards, advertising brochures and travel guides show an ideal version of the world, often simply ignoring the harsh reality faced by the local population. In the blink of an eye, they switch between alternating light and shadow, analogue photographs, filigree mechanisms, as well as paper and tin miniatures, pondering why we long for something that never really existed and wondering about the biographies that are not shown in the photos.
Shaday Larios and Jomi Oligor have two companies, Microscopía Teatro and Hermanos Oligor, through which they work in Mexico and Spain, using poetic research methods to search for memories in objects.
Notes on accessibility: Information about the accessibility of the venue in structural terms can be found here. There is no space for wheelchairs. The audience are seated close together on a wooden grandstand that does not have back or side supports; there are only very limited opportunities to leave the auditorium during the performance. It is also very dark at times during the performance; the audience will be blinded by flashes on three occasions. The smell of a burning cigar and a burning incense stick are also used.
