The Theory Café, initiated in the frame of Theater der Dinge as a reading group on the topic of "artificial bodies", takes place as a video chat. You will receive the access link by e-mail on the day of the event. In order to participate, the software Zoom must be downloaded and its privacy policy must be agreed to.

In times of need, it is often things that first and foremost provide comfort: hot water bottles, scented candles, Tabaluga plasters, biscuits made according to grandma's recipe or the teddy bear from childhood. There can be many reasons why things provide comfort: because they have a certain temperature or consistency, because they are connected to a memory or a person, because they distract us or - on the contrary - make us feel.

In this workshop we want to share our comforting objects with each other and form a small comforting collective. Do the same or very different things help us? What constitutes the particular quality of consolation - balm, hope, back-in-the-mother's-belly? Is there such a thing as false comfort? And to what extent can theatre itself be a place of consolation?

The online workshop Theory Café invites you to exchange and reflect on the body and its things. In a cosy, relaxed atmosphere, we start from our current experiences and deepen them through small theoretical readings and creative exercises.
